WHAT’S A DESKTOP TICKER?

A Ticker is a narrow window of moving text displayed at the bottom of a computer screen. Its short, snappy format is ideal for conveying bite-size chunks of information, and for signposting and hyperlinking to more detailed content within its headline. Also known as a scrolling newsfeed, a Ticker allows the reader to scan headlines while working within other applications.

It can be set to stay on screen permanently until clicked, or to reappear at scheduled intervals. Headlines are usually set to repeat in the scrolling bar to ensure they are not missed.

An internal desktop news ticker pushes important news and updates to employees without them having to stop what they’re doing. This gives them the latest, most accurate information on-the-spot without having to exit out of an application and therefore lose valuable productivivity.  

A Ticker is typically used for short updates, delivered as ‘news headlines’.  Examples include:

SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Publish an unlimited number of headlines per Ticker
  • Vary the scrolling speed – fast for urgent messages and slower for general updates
  • Categorize headlines into subject groups
  • Start the Ticker in retracted mode
  • Repeat headlines any number of times within the Ticker bar
  • Add an icon to the headline to draw the readers attention
  • Keep notifying even when the message is read (useful for targeting computing devices shared by shift workers)
  • Force the Ticker to run continuously

TICKER VARIATIONS

  • Single or multiple headlines within a Ticker
  • Urgent Tickers will display over the top of applications in selected display mode (for example PowerPoint in Slideshow mode)
  • Use a headline only, attach a link to a URL to the headline or link the headline to an associated Alert Window

SNAPCOMMS TICKER CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

  • ReportingReal-time metrics showing the success of the Ticker in terms of delivery to the device as well as readership.
  • Targeting – scrolling desktop Tickers can be sent to the whole organization, individual employees, groups of employees, organizational units or any combination of these. Existing Active Directory groups can be targeted or groups of individuals can be created manually. These groups can be saved for re-use at any time.
  • Recurrence – Set the Ticker to recur until read. This means the ticker will start scrolling again after a set interval until employees read the message.
  • Scheduling – Send urgent messages or important news updates immediately or schedule the Ticker to be sent at a future date and time. Tickers, like reminders, can be set to repeat at specified intervals.
  • Campaigns – Bundle scrolling Tickers with other channels (such as Screensavers and desktop Alerts) around the same topic to drive behavior change. Conclude the campaign with a validation item that requires acknowledgment by the employee.
